I found a logical path. It was really really narrow, but I believe it exists. Aside from the obvious patterns that are available for use, the 3 7-8 pairs provided the opening necessary. I like Hitoris with complex patterns. I do these much better than the "search" types. This one took me a good 10 minutes though.
That sounds like you were on my intended path. Good to know it's discoverable. Your solution time roughly matches other reports, although they seemed to get there with some degree of brute force.
Oh! This is definitely not trial and errory! I dislike most hitoris because it is hard to get some good global constraints in there but you pulled it off really well! Godd job!
All the big patches seem to have two choices, and the material near them seems to link them all up, so it's as though there are two possible states for the whole big puzzle. My visualization wasn't good enough to get there, so I guessed one cell and all the rest followed quite quickly from there and I found a solution. Now it's off to guess that cell the other way and make sure I find the contradiction so I can understand what's wrong with the other possibility.
